The short version: Southbound has no account, no cloud, and no analytics. Everything you enter is stored only on your own device, and your financial figures are never transmitted to us or anyone else.
Who this covers
This policy applies to the Southbound iOS app and the Retirement Strategy Calculator website (the "Services"), operated by the maker of Southbound ("we," "us").
What we collect
From the app: nothing. Southbound has no login and no account. The plan you build — your age, balances, income estimates, and destination — is stored only in the app's private storage on your device. We operate no servers that receive it, and it is deleted when you delete the app.
From the website: the calculator runs in your browser and keeps your inputs on your device; we don't store them. Our hosting provider may keep standard, short-lived server logs (such as IP address and request time) for security and reliability, as is typical for any website. If you choose to submit your email on our "notify me" form, we use that address only to email you when the app launches, and for nothing else.
The app's network activity
Southbound works fully offline for every calculation. It makes only two kinds of outbound connection, and neither one carries your financial data:
- Destination photos. When you open a destination, the app asks Wikimedia (Wikipedia) for a photo of that city. The only thing sent is the city's name — never your numbers.
- Purchases. Unlocking the full plan goes through Apple's StoreKit. Apple processes the payment and sees a receipt; we never see your card or financial details.
What we don't do
- No third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in the app.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of personal information — we don't have it to sell.
- No tracking you across other apps or websites.
Apple purchases and restores
In-app purchases are handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy. Your purchase can be restored on any device signed into the same Apple Account. Refund requests are handled by Apple, not by us.
Your device backups
If you use encrypted iPhone or iCloud backups, your Southbound data may be included in that backup and is encrypted under your own Apple credentials. We never have access to it.
Children
Southbound is intended for adults planning for retirement and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and post the new version here.
